A History of x 3 Promotional attributes// CRIT feedback

Generation of Personal Questions...

1. Do you think a more dynamic and 'recent' approach to my aesthetics would've worked better?
2. Is there anything obvious I've missed out/ Could've incorporated?
3. Would the leaflet and business card look better on a different stock e.g. Bulky newsprint etc.
4. Could I of minimised my colour palette to 'Black & White' - Would it of looked better?
5. How could I develop the 'Plaque'.
6. Is the concept of: Raising awareness for the creator of the Paralympic games (Who saved many lives) A good idea?
7. Is the heart of medical crosses distinct/ understandable?

Crit Feedback; x2 Sheets.

Strengths; Combined

  • Strong use of images.
  • The contents connects well together.
  • The 'Plaque' looks great, the stock looks like a medal - good relation.
  • The colour palette are fine as they are, no need to minimise, however stock could have some re-consideration, would boost overall aesthetic.
  • Think aesthetics you've used suits subject matter "modern" look of recent Olympics wouldn't have looked quite right.
  • Good mix of traditional and up-to-date aesthetics.
  • Good use of stock - professional high quality - Sleek.
  • Good use of colour - represents both Olympics/ Paralympics.
  • Plaque is a brill addition, really impressed - can picture it in context.
  • Good concept - More awareness needed for Paralympics.

Areas for Improvement; Combined

  • Maybe re-consider about the colour of stock, may be look into antique colours?.
  • Business card doesn't work well together - Modern & the old doesn't quite match. Antique stock may help it connect with the person.
  • Yes, it was hard to figure out but it needs to be more specific - just hinting may not effect the audiences properly.
  • Abit confused? What is being promoted by the third Graphic product? Is it a business card for a dead person?
  • Don't think Business card was the best third product.
  • Could have been different promotional material to help raise awareness?

Personal Comments;

I'm very happy with the feedback and think there's been some fair points announced, the reasoning behind some of my products could've been better explained, for e.g. The proposal for my business card.  Changing the stock of its outcome could've made all the difference, making it more distinguished as an 'antique' piece, rather than a replication for a business card. Overall I thought the feedback was both encouraging and enlightening.

Introduce and explain the top TEN most interesting pieces of information from my subject matter...

  • Pushing boundaries and striving to reach your fullest potential has always fascinated me, so when it came to research, I knew the Paralympics would be an interesting subject matter, not only did it provide me with a rich source of statistics, facts & quotes, but it also provided me with enlightening knowledge. For e.g: Before the Second World War, 80% of all 'Paraplegics' died within 3 years of their accidents. Today over 80% have a normal life expectancy, thanks to Sir Ludwig Guttmann.
  • The actual growth of the sporting event was astonishing, especially since the 2008 Paralympic Games hosted in Barcelona, Spain, The introduction of media coverage caused the events to become; The second biggest sporting event in the world, watched by an estimated TV audience of 1.5 billion people during 2008. Only 16 years earlier...there were 1.3 million spectators.
  • There are 500 Paralympic Medal events.
  • Technology in Paralympic Sport: Performance enhancement or essential for performance?
  • I chose the following quite as one of the most interesting pieces of information because it signifies that there would be an audience for what I was broadcasting. A resurgence of interest in the Doctor has also led to a BBC series based on his accomplishments called 'The best of men'. "The Guttmann story is massive," said Olympic historian Martin Polley. "He was the one who linked rehab to competitive sport."
  • A heartwarming and motivational speech, displaying the determination and realisation procedure these unfortunate people have to go through "One patient told me `I'm waiting for God almighty to take me up," the Times of London reported Guttmann as saying at a conference in 1962. "I told him `While you are waiting, you can do some work'."
  • Guttmann was working to rehabilitate Soldiers, Convinced that sport was the answer. He believed that every person who sustained a serious disablement, would also feel the same effect on their soul "If the body is thrown into chaos, the soul must follow. They lose an activity of their mind, & sport provides the power to restore this, giving the disabled self-confidence and self-dignity".
  • (Boston Marathon) At times the rules of the sport became roadblocks for the innovators, some tried competing with 3 wheels however they weren't allowed to use this because the rules state you had to have 4 wheels. Therefore some put a wheel next to the front 3rd wheel, but didn't put any air in the tyre, this meant it didn't touch the ground.
  • 'YOUR NOT DISABLED BY THE DISABILITIES YOU HAVE, YOU ARE BY THE ABILITIES YOU HAVE' -Oscar Pistorius. Wise words from an athlete who has succeeded, despite a lot of controversy surrounding his two prosthetic limbs.
  • The first Paralympic symbol used 5 'Tae-Geuks', these were based on the ancient chinese symbol of Tai-Chi.
